FISH Social Services is the agency that confirms eligibility & distributes the SAFE funds for low-income individuals or families in the midst of a financial crisis. I have received assistance from them twice in the past (2 separate years). I was told that I would be eligible again a year from the date I last received assistance. It's been longer than 2 years since that time, & my family needs help with our power we bill. We've gotten very behind on our NV Energy bill since February, when my husband suffered an unexpected heart attack, followed by multiple hospitalizations. Thank God he's able to work now, but we're also FIVE THOUSAND DOLLARS BEHIND on our rent. On top of that, I've been unable to work since last April, due to a condition called Chronic Venous Insufficiency. Symptoms of this condition are terrible, like this very large non-healing wound ive had on my calf for nearly 2 years now. The woman at the front desk, COMPLETELY disregarding everything I'd just told her, said ,"NO hun, SORRY, you're not eligible." ???????????????? ""You've already received assistance 2 times. It's time to learn about sharing with the others, k?!" .............. And just like THAT, my family no longer has electricity. WHAT A KIND PERSON, HUH? Geez. It's hard enough asking f9r the help. I feel shitty enough as it is. No need to rub it in, 'HUN'..... Social Service Agencies really need to be careful with their hiring. They need to be sure that their genuinely caring and understanding people who want to be there to help others. I've noticed that a lot of selfish, self-centered people with low self-esteem love to work at places like this. They are rude and deny people services so they can feel powerful & cool. IT MAKES ME SO SAD.
