"A recent eviction after a layoff put me out on the street (don't own a car) while CA unemployment were taking their sweet time giving approval (was waiting for at least 3 weeks ) So I followed the advice from the "here for you" hotline service and stayed overnight I'd probably be compelled to stay overnight again only if there was no other choice. The staff were generally easy to talk to and get information from, with some caveats or exceptions. Speaking plainly, some of the staff were obviously stressed-out and had a strong tendency to be short or even a bit angry sounding when they were confronted with any of the grim, dirty, angry, and crazy stuff that must come up inextricably with homeless guys night after night. Seems seema to me it would be an excellent and quick way to burn out. Other than that, and that night being the first on the street for me ( so I didn't know what to expect) I figure it was basically same as a cabin bunk in summer camp. Oh, speaking of bunks, the mattresses and beddingwere all plain but more comfortablethan I would have assumed. But if you are an older guy like me then ask for a botrom a bottom bunk if you can. I didn't expect the top bunk to be so high up off the floor, that I was having bad dreams about falling off the sides all night."
