In conjunction with the National Association of Power Engineers (NAPE), Chapter 44, LaGuardia Community College offers the Refrigeration Machine Operator License Preparation course for members of NAPE. If students are not members, they may join at registration. Passing this course prepares students for the written and practical exam for the license issued by the New York City Fire Department. Topics include basic HVAC terminology, fundamentals of the refrigeration cycle, four major components of an HVAC system and their functions, voltage controls plus workplace safety measures while servicing a system.
