Verified Information

The City of Berkeley Specialized Care Unit (SCU) is a 3-person team including a clinician, peer specialist, and EMT that offers mental health crisis services with no police involvement for non-violent crisis calls. If the situation is appropriate for the SCU's services to be used, they will dispatch staff in a crisis van to the location specified to assist. SCU is not a replacement for Fire and Police services and may refer the situation to outside resources if the call is beyond the team's capacity to handle.
