St. Mary's Welcome Baby is a free, voluntary program available to expectant mothers through pregnancy and into early parenthood. Program nurses are available to provide education and support, such as instruction on how to breastfeed and diaper a newborn. Mothers attend nine sessions with the Welcome Baby coach, ending in a home visit by a registered nurse following the birth of the baby. Social workers can help new mothers get connected to services in the community, including assistance enrolling in Medi-Cal or Covered California health insurance exchange plans.
