Individuals can apply to DOHMH to change the gender marker on their New York City birth certificate to "Female", "Male", or "X".

Documentation Needed to Enroll
Birth Correction Application, copy of current signed photo ID, and signed and notarized statement requesting a change on your birth certificate to a gender marker that conforms with your gender identity.
