When Lola heard about One Degree through Facebook and contacted help@1degree.org, our staff quickly connected Lola to organizations and services near her that addressed her needs for food and rent assistance.
“I continued to search for other resources on One Degree,” Lola reported after using the platform. “I started looking for places where I could receive food, and I found some addresses and was able to access a church’s food bank.” The Salvation Army and various churches were able to provide a steady source of free food to Lola and her family.
Today, Lola encourages others to use One Degree because she believes that it can relieve a lot of stress for people facing similar financial challenges.

While NYC has a rich landscape of quality high school, post-secondary, and workforce programs for young people, before One Degree came to NYC, there was no single place to search for all of these opportunities in one place. To address this challenge, Fair Futures brought One Degree to NYC with the support of the Foster Care Excellence Fund Foundations.
In July 2020, with resources stretched thin and an outdated process for providing COVID-19 testing information to residents, LA County requested One Degree’s help. Using the County’ existing online infrastructure, One Degree was able to quickly launch a modern, human-centered testing site locator tool and an administrative application within just three weeks to meet the urgent need.
